The tradition of engagement rings began in the fifteenth century. Today, the giving of antique engagement rings is becoming more and more popular. To be classed as an antique ring, the ring must be more than 50 years old. There are several different periods of antique rings for engagements which are popular today including Victorian, Art Deco, Edwardian, and Art Nouveau.

Victorian rings were made during the reign of Queen Victoria of England, between 1837 and 1901. Popular styles of engagement rings in this era were the ‘You and Me’ ring, the ‘Regards’ ring, the ‘Love’ ring, the ‘Dearest’ ring, the ‘Serpent’ or ‘Snake’ ring and the three-stone ring. Queen Victoria herself had a snake ring for her engagement to Prince Albert. The snakes are usually entwined and they represent the bride and groom. Victorian rings normally were made from either yellow gold or rose gold.

Art Nouveau was a style and movement of architecture and art which was popular around the late 19th century and early 20th century. Major figures in the Art Nouveau period were Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Antoni Gaudi, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Art Nouveau engagement rings were designed with sweeping curves and feminine designs. The designs were frequently influenced by Asia as well as plants, flowers, insects, butterflies, dragonflies, snakes, water lilies and irises. Metals used in the rings were gold, silver, and platinum.

King Edward VII of England reigned from 1901 to 1910 and this was known as the Edwardian era. Typically, Edwardian engagement rings were made of platinum set with rose cut diamonds or sapphires. Because platinum is a very strong metal, more elegant and detailed rings could be made. Filigree and lace work are typical of these rings. Edwardian engagement rings usually had designs which were based on nature. Gemstones would be set to look like a flower growing amid vines or leaves. The gemstones were cut to give the impression of a flower.

Art Deco was an art and design movement which began in the middle of the 1920s and lasted until the 1940s. Art Deco designs were found in art, fashion and architecture. This style was also found in jewellery design. Art Deco engagement rings used sapphires, emeralds, rubies, diamonds and other gemstones. These rings often have a large stone surrounded by smaller stones or can consist of large groups of stones. Designs were often angular, and used bold and contrasting colours.

When you are talking about watch brands, and in particular which ones are the most popular you must define the topic a bit more. There are popular watches among the rich and famous that will run you a cool million, and then there are the watches loved by everyone else! For the purposes here, we will concentrate on the second group, million dollar watches are out of the realm of possibility for most of the world so lets look at a couple of ones that everyone can afford!

Timex

Timex has a reputation for making watches that take a licking and keep on ticking, or so says their clever ad campaign from many years ago. The brand has stood the test of time however and today offer consumers many choices in time keeping accessories. You can get a watch that tells you the time in standard or military time keeps track of your workout and watches that are even great for telling time under water!

Casio

Casio also has a good reputation with customers, they offer a wide variety of watches to fit nearly every need. Case in point is their thermometer bracelet watch, with quartz movement and water resistance up to 330 feet, many people love this watch. Additional features include but are not limited to:

* World time zones

* Alarm

* Stop watch features

* Calendar – up to 2099

* 24/12 hour formats

Conclusion

There are many popular watch brands on the market today, from your bargain brands to higher end models. Cheaper models may not have the glitz or staying power of their more expensive counterparts but they will tell the time and look nice doing it. When you begin shopping for a new watch, you will want to keep lifestyle choices in mind. Where you work, how you play and how much you can afford will play a large role in your choices.

Are you fascinated by Antique Jewellery and vintage jewellery or just want to buy a piece as a special gift or heirloom? If so you you need to know that the piece you are buying is a genuine antique and not a modern copy. There are many things to check and look out for such as the materials the piece is made from, the way the jewellery is made and the shape of the catches and hinges. All of these factors are just guidelines but with British Antique Jewellery you can sometimes tell the exact date of a piece from its hallmarks.

Hallmarking law is complex, it varied from city to city and has changed many times over the years since it was introduced in the middle ages. It takes a set of tables to work out the exact age of a piece but there are certain pieces of antique jewellery that it is easy to work out the age of. One of these is British antique jewellery made from 15 carat gold.

What is 15 carat Gold?

15 carat gold is gold of.625 purity, that is 625 parts of pure gold per 1000 parts. Pure gold is very expensive and also quite soft so it is mixed with other materials to give a harder and cheaper material that is more suitable and longer lasting than pure gold for use in jewellery. The other materials include copper, silver, iron, platinum and aluminium. The colour of the gold can be altered using different metals in the blend, for example rose gold is produced by having a high level of copper in the mix. 15 carat gold can theoretically be any colour that gold can be made in but normally you will find it as yellow or rose gold

How can i Identify 15 carat gold?

British antique jewellery which is made of 15 carat gold will be hallmarked with the number 15 and.625. If the piece of jewellery is quite light weight it may just be stamped 15ct. If there are the full hallmarks you would also expect to find a town mark, a date letter and the gold standard mark for the town which would help to give an exact date.

When was 15 carat gold used?

It was only a legal standard of gold in British jewellery between 1854 and 1931. During this time 12 carat (.5 or 500 parts per thousand) was also used. These two standards were replaced by 14 carat in 1932. Neither 12 or 15 carat gold were legal standards before 1854. This means tat any piece of antique gold jewellery from Britain with the 15 carat hallmark dates somewhere between 1854 and 1931 and you have a genuine piece of antique or vintage jewellery.

Pearls are always a favorite when it comes to weddings. A lot of brides prefer wearing these gems during their big day – their wedding day. Pearls are not only elegant and unique, it also has been historically linked to the qualities that a woman embodies on her big day. As we all know, pearls symbolize purity, beauty and simplicity. This is why choosing pearls as a bridal accessory is perfect for a bride. Since most brides are already wearing their engagement rings on their finger on their wedding day, an additional pearl ring isn’t really that necessary. This is why pearl rings are not really that commonly used in weddings. Pearl necklaces, earrings and bracelets are far more common accessories used in weddings than rings.

Even though pearl jewelry are known to be worn by brides on their wedding day, the jewelry has evolved and it has now become a popular accessory for women of all ages across the world. It has evolved from an old-fashioned jewelry to a fashionable and chic accessory. Even kids and teenagers already wear this gem and upgrades any outfit instantly.

Pearls are really one of a kind. They could transform any drab outfit to a fab one. Gone are the days when pearls are only used during special occasions. Anyone could wear pearls anywhere and anytime they like which makes it a very versatile accessory. To wrap up, pearls have evolved into something that could be used for any occasion and setting which makes it the most unique gem in the world.

Jewelry has value, often both sentimental as well as monetary. Yet many folks keep their jewelry casually stored in a jewelry box on their dresser or in their drawer providing an easy target for even an inexperienced burglar. Others keep their precious jewelry locked up safe at the bank, making it inconvenient to wear. Jewelry safes address the downsides of both of those options by providing convenient, secure storage of jewelry.

Tip #1: Look for both fire and burglary protection.
A home jewelry safe should provide protection from both fire and burglary. While none of us hope to have either a fire or a burglary at our home statistics suggest that it is a real possibility. Jewelry safes typically have fire ratings of 30, 60 or 90 minutes and some are even rated for 2 hours. All ratings are not created equal. Look for jewelry safe that has been fire tested by an independent organization. Well known fire testing agencies are names such as United Laboratories (U.L.), ETL and Mercury. Higher ratings are important if you live near open spaces or in a remote location.

Tip #2: Burglary protection is the most important consideration.
Burglar protection is probably the most important consideration when purchasing a home jewelry safe. Look for jewelry safes that have a U.L. Residential Security Container (RSC) or the even the higher TL rating. Just as with the fire rating these independent sources give you confidence that you are getting quality protection. Generally the more steel in the safe the better to slow down any attempted attacks, but even more important is a quality lock.

Tip #3: Consider what type of lock you prefer.
Jewelry safes can be configured with either a traditional tumbler style combination lock or an electronic lock. Regardless of what style lock, the lock on your home jewelry safe should be one that has the U.L. high security rating. The two different styles of locks are equally secure. Most people find the electronic lock to be much easier, and certainly faster, to use. The batteries are located in the faceplate on the outside of the safe so they are easy to replace even when the safe is locked closed.

One big advantage of the electronic lock is that you can choose your own combination and change the combination whenever you so desire. Tumbler style locks come from the factory with a set combination and usually a locksmith is needed to change the combination. As mentioned previously, both style locks are equally secure so the choice between combination lock or electronic lock is really about personal preference. Biometric, or fingerprint locks have received much of attention over the past couple of years. Good quality biometric locks can be similar in security to the combination and electronic locks but are generally at a price point that makes them less attractive. If this type of lock is important to you look for a home jewelry safe with this option.

Tip #4: Evaluate interior options.
The other key component of home jewelry safes is the jewelry box inside. Boxes can be either production style made in large quantities at affordable prices or semi-custom or custom that allows the purchaser to impact the specifics of the design. Look for boxes that provide velvet lined drawers and dividers that work well for the jewelry you plan to store.

Valuable jewelry often is enjoyed by multiple generations within a family. This long life of enjoyment is dependent upon keeping the jewelry safe from both burglary and fire. It is worth time and money to protect this family heritage.

Like any other valuable possessions, diamonds also need to be insured. However, insuring it is very different from insuring a car. There are three common types of insurance policies of jewelries and all these policies are classified as marine type policies. One type of jewelry insurance policy is the actual cash value where the company replaces your lost or damaged stones, which can no longer be repaired, based on its current market value. This type of insurance coverage is not very popular.

Another type of insurance coverage is the replacement value policy and is the most common type. In this policy, the insurance company pays only up to a fixed amount when your diamond is lost or damaged beyond repair. The company will only pay up to the pre-agreed amount and most often replacement is at lower cost. The agreed value insurance policy is also called “At” and is very rare. The insurance company pays you the pre-agreed amount in the event that the diamond is lost or damaged beyond repair. Among the three types of policies, the agreed value is the best one and the actual cash value is the second choice.

The insurance company will determine your rates based on the value of your stone and the type of coverage you have chosen. The area where you live in is also considered in determining the rate of your policy. For instance, if you are located in an area where the case of robbery or theft is high, the cost of your policy may be higher. Before getting insurance for your diamond, make sure that the company is trusted and reliable. It is a good idea to get some background information on the company and how long it has been operating.

You will also be required to provide them a copy of the diamond certificate, as this will give them the value of your diamond. Be vigilant with the terms and conditions of the insurance coverage that the company offers.

Cross necklaces have been around for thousands of years dating back to before B.C. and hold different meanings for many different people. Depending on their background, the crosses can vary greatly giving you a wide array of beautiful different types to choose from, which is why I am going to differentiate these for you making your choice a little bit easier. I am going to give you some background on some of the more common crosses such as the Celtic, Christian, and Western crosses making the process of finding the right cross for you a breeze.

Christian crosses are probably one of the most common types of crosses you will find today anywhere you go which is why this will be my focus. These can range from Latin, Greek, to Celtic or to the Swastika depending on the type of Christian faith you most relate to personally. One thing most of these crosses have in common is the fact that generally you will see more silver crosses than anything because that seems to reach a more profound amount of people do to its commonality. The Latin cross pendant is carried by more people than any other religious faith and is a representation of the Trinity. It can also be called a Protestant cross because its generally a plain silver cross pendant without any adornments or decorations. However, you see this type of silver cross pendant within the Catholic church because it symbolizes the crucifix, which is the focus of their faith.

The Celtic cross pendant has a range that reaches across many types of Christian faiths and is just as much a symbol of heritage as it is of faith. These can vary from Irish to Scottish or even Welsh backgrounds which has a wealth of history and meaning that many hold very dear to their hearts. Although traditionally, crosses have been given a religious connotation because of the crucifixion of Christ, Celtic crosses were in evidence long before the Celtic people converted to Christianity. This silver cross pendant is not only a christian symbol, but is also rich with folklore and mystery which makes it a very interesting and popular cross pendant because of its ability to reach a wide range of people.

Whether you decide to make a Celtic cross your silver cross pendant of choice or the Latin cross, both make a statement that can make you proud. Silver cross pendants vary greatly and are all beautiful symbols that have great depth and meaning, and my hope is that with the little bit of background and meaning that I gave you, this will make your choice just a little bit easier.

Since 1980 A Rosary Necklace has forever been a standard requirement, not just because it is an image of the Catholic faith and also a belief in the faith, but because it is a trendy style too. With 2010 comes new style developments, and this is true for the Gold Rosary Necklace too. One such development will be a huge push for fourteen carat gold. The gold will be in white or yellow.

There will be more trends for 2010 concerning the Rosary Necklace. Besides 14 carat gold, another very popular trend will be a Diamond cut Rosary Necklace. Diamond cut necklaces will be a little more expensive, but they will come in three different sizes. The Massive, the Average, and the Small. The massive diamond cut is obviously going to be the most expensive. It is very big and probably best for those with a larger frame. The average diamond rosary is of average size and average price, for diamonds. It is good for a lot of different people. The small cut is the least expensive, but truly only suited for those of smaller frame.

Following are the expected trends of rosary in 14 carat gold:

Another fad to follow is the Rosary Necklace that is just a spiritual pendant from the front, but has a place for a picture on the back. This could be a religious picture or a family picture.

Another popular idea is the rosary necklace for no spiritual people (why?) printed with non religious letter on the front, and a personal picture printed on the back. Something else that has been seen quite a lot is fourteen carat beads that are strung on a cross pendant to represent the picture of Christ. A super popular idea is necklaces that are made from Figaro. Figaro is a little cheaper then the diamond cut so people save some money and stay in fashion at the same time. God and diamond coated necklaces are another cheaper alternative. A trendy gold chain that forms a y and is covered in crystal beads is quite popular and can be picked up almost anywhere. Another choice is ebony wooden beads and a fourteen carat gold horn. A gold chain with white and black beads, or just black beads is a cool alternative.

Having in mind some useful guidelines in looking for an article to purchase is a great help for a great pick. There have been lots of versions of different tips for better acquisition of a particular article had been written and published for the benefits of the growing public to help them in their expanding needs in life that they ought to have. Here is another addition to the list that you should always bear in mind, it is about why is it preferable to choose a clip on earrings instead of the other one that needs a pierce on the ear lobes.

There is no need to undergo a process of piercing an ear that to some it is kind of okay but to others it is an intolerable act for they cannot sustain the pain that the process would cause them. After the process, the healing duration could also be a burden to deal with, difficulty in sleeping is one, experiencing pain as you move to your sides might occur. If not taken with care, infection might happen and many other risk could follow. It would also takes you time before you can wear an earring you desire after undergoing piercing process. Just take this, why settle yourself for a risky act when there are available alternatives to engage your life with. Go for clip on earrings!

At first, there were clip on earrings that are a little bit harsh to the ear for the clip design does not fit perfectly for the ear lobes. Painful reddish ear lobes resulted after having it on the ear. Thanks to technology and creativity of jewellers, it was given with proper solution. The use of gold and silver on the clips were practiced for their durability suit best to the required design. Since the clip on earrings are connected to the ear by means of a clip, it can be wear in and take off easily thus reduces stress especially in times that there is a need for a hurry but requires retention of poise and bearing. Changing the pair of earrings that you want while also considering what pair would compliment best you attire is made easy with clip on earrings. Wearing it is as if wearing nothing, but what it can provide you is definitely undeniable, a gorgeous look.

The feeling of comfort is something we are looking for in life. The same idea applies as we get ourselves dressed. Proper clothes, foot wear and the right accessories. Clip on earrings is a better choice, change as much as you want till you get yourself satisfied. No harm, no pain but the look that is elegant and sophisticated is surely yours. Preferring yourself to use clip on earrings is definitely of no much difference as to pierce earrings when it comes to what you will look like, but safety is one thing that we must not take for granted. Always value your time, you can never bring them back again. Be wise and extra careful, try clip on earrings and enjoy the feeling.
